How To Acid Wash A Pool Without Draining It? Acid wash is much more than regular pool cleaning and can be easily done without draining. This process is done by first bringing the pH level of the pool water to a very acidic level and keeping the alkalinity level almost close to zero.
After achieving these two levels it is then time to brush the pool for continuous three days.
Use steel bristled pool brush as it is very effective in removing stains and other germs. Make sure to brush the pool several times per day to help the acid clean all necessary germs and stains. Three days later the first process is reversed to bring the water chemistry to normal.

Step One:
To have a pool cleaned completely with no stains it is first required to add 16 oz of acid wash per 10,000 gallons. It is advised to always use an acid wash product that has an adequate amount of concentrated metal sequestrate formula.
Various pool wash products can be used to clean all stains. Good quality sequestering agents will lock all minerals in the solution during the process.
Step Two:
After adding a good quality sequestering agent adds 8 lbs of pH decreaser per 5,000 gallons. Add this pH decreaser evenly all around the pool. Add all that is possible at one single time and ensure more is poured on areas having more stains.
After adding the pH decreasers brush the pool immediately. Brush places well that have more stains. The pH decreaser applied to start showing signs once proper brushing is done. After brushing check the alkalinity level of the water.
Do this by using a reliable test kit easily available in stores.
Step Three:
This is the last step and it requires reversing the process by raising the pH and alkalinity of the pool water. To start the processes add 8lbs of pH increaser per 5,000 gallons. Please ensure that the pH increaser is added in three separate doses keeping a minimum difference of 6 to 8 hours.
This process is done to clouding of the pool water. You might notice in the initial stage of the process cloud water accumulating. This is temporary and soon will disappear. The precipitated solids are all carbonates and will absorb and bring back the total alkalinity to normal.
Keep adding the pH increaser until the pH and alkalinity levels have re-established. Once done you can now turn on the pump and replace it if any item has been removed.
